Redruth Rugby match news

Redruth v Coventry – POSTPONED

Headlines, Senior Rugby News / Thursday 2 December 2010

UPDATE (11:00 Friday) – following a pitch inspection by an RFU referee, the Redruth-Coventry match this weekend has been abandoned due to areas of the pitch still being frozen, despite much warmer conditions forecast for the rest of today and tomorrow. For the match to have been given the go-ahead the pitch had to fully playable at the time of the inspection, which it was not. The match is provisionally rescheduled for the 26th February.

The cancellation means yet another week of inaction for the Redruth senior side, but the following two home fixtures due to be played at the Recreation ground will give every fan of good Cornish rugby something to get excited about! Redruth will host arch-rivals the Cornish All-Blacks on the 18th December in what could be a season-defining fixture for both clubs: this match promises to be unmissable!

Then the following week Redruth welcomes Camborne in the traditional Yuletide derby fixture, this year on the 27th December rather than Boxing Day. Come take a break from the turkey and join everyone else in the festive throng!

UPDATE (16:00 Thursday) – If the pitch passes the inspection then we need volunteers to help clear the remaining snow and ice from the rest of the ground on Friday afternoon. So if you’ve got a shovel handy and want to see a great game of rugby this weekend then contact Roger at secretary@redruthrugby.com and turn up at the Recreation Ground once the all clear has been given. Your club needs you!

(10:00 Thursday) There will be a pitch inspection at 11am on Friday 3rd December to determine whether or not this weekend’s fixture between Redruth and Coventry will go ahead.

Whilst other matches are being called off today after the RFU allowed Thursday pitch inspections, Coventry have agreed to a later inspection time to give as much chance for a thaw as possible since they are not due to travel until lunchtime on Friday.

The website will be updated with news on the results of the pitch inspection as soon as it has been carried out.
